Increase Your Brain Power
Did you know that you can boost your brain power by eating certain types of food? Surprised? Well it is absolutely true and pleasurable at the same time. All those neurotransmitters up there, they are crucial in the communication between the brain and the rest of our body.
If your eating habits are poor the ‘guys’ up there in your brain are not going to be very happy and you will feel the effects in your body functions, in your ability to be a quick thinker and your mood will be greatly affected.
Some of the ‘guys’ up there are called:
- Serotonin – The happiness molecule! I think that is the best definition to understand the importance of it.
- Noradrenalin – Responsible for our alertness, drive and motivation.
- Dopamine - Responsible for experiences of pleasure, reward and significantly involved in our central nervous system.
- Adrenalin – Helps us cope with stress, the fight or flight ‘guy’.
And guess what? They are all made of the same molecules as certain food types, water and air. Do you want to cooperate a bit more with your neurotransmitters up there? The first thing is to reduce your caffeine and alcohol intake, but if you are like me and can’t survive without going down to the pub at least once a week and have that precious liquid that goes down so good then you can start having the brain booster food in a regular basis.
Brain booster food has certain nutrients which are: Zinc, B vitamins, Protein, Complex Carbohydrates and Water. These can be found in the following food types:
- Zinc – Chickpeas, tahini paste, tofu, lentils, wheat bran, aduki beans.
- Vitamin B - Avocado, seaweed, mushrooms, peas, sunflower seed, sweet potatoes, bananas.
- Protein – Fish, pulses and legumes, nuts and seeds, quinoa, eggs, lean white meats.
- Complex Carbohydrates – Brown rice, wild rice, oats, beans, squash, all berries, peaches.
- Water – Have lots of water as it is the best substance to feed your brain.
Always start small and with little changes. Remember that our palate can get used to any new food, it’s just a matter of eating it again and again.
